Friday, September 6, 2013

Below, you will find a list of players that are entered for the tournament on Friday September 6, 2013.

We start at 6:30pm. Location: 9900 Westpark #254, Houston, TX 77063. Gate Code: #003. Returning players can expect the same routine we have used for years. From 5:30pm until the end of the tournament, you can call 281-940-8199.

Anyone who entered after the 10pm deadline was not paired, and I can't make exceptions to this policy, but please contact me if you would like to play on Saturday instead.

Anyone who who did not register for this semester was not paired, but I might be able to register them later for future tournaments if there is space. I use the registration form so I know that parents know the rules. I need the information for emergency contact information. By not registering, I assume the player is taking a break for a semester, and I try to give a new player a chance to play.  And most importantly I just want to be fair. Every semester I worry about parents forgetting the registration. Every week I worry about parents mot entering their child on time for a tournament.

If you wish to make a payment at the tournament, please make a check made payable to Jeffrey Ashton, or have exact change. We can process the payment quickly, this way.

If you have any questions tomorrow, the staff and I are very busy before Round 1 begins (around 6:45pm, things should be moving along smoothly). We try very hard to start on time while guiding the new players.

We've had about 250 tournaments with this structure, and about 10 "seasons" so far. And almost every week we have helped young, new players play in their first chess tournament. Please assure the newcomer that we are here to help and we will be looking for the newcomer players to make sure they are comfortable. We will help them find their boards and understand their pairing. We have a staff that will escort your children to you in the hallways.

Parents, please understand, that we will be very busy before round 1 because it is the first tournament of the semester, but we can better assist you with questions after round 1. Also after the first week things slow down a bit as well.

Also, please take a look at our information page (it has a lot of answers to frequently asked questions regarding tournaments). The link is: http://pandachessacademy.blogspot.com/

If the player's name is on the list below, they will see their name on a sign-in sheet as they enter the tournament.

With some players, we will add their USCF information to the list below. My first priority was to make sure the people who entered the tournament and registered for the semester are in tomorrow's tournament. Now I will work on updating the USCF information.

Parents, please help us avoid crowds. We have 4 rooms and I will have to use all of them. We ask that parents help by clearing out the playing area and spread out in the hallways. Also, please remind the children to walk quietly to and from the tournament out of respect for my neighbors and the building staff who may still be doing work in the office building. We have a staff of myself and some helpers that will mainly be helping your kids until round 1 and then we can help answer your questions once we get them started on their games.

Please try to email any questions ahead of time to jeff@chesspanda.com. I will be spending the whole day preparing for the tournament based on the information submitted through online forms, but I will also be actively checking my emails for questions or withdrawals (cancellation of entry for this week's tournament).

Thanks,
Jeff
